WA: Regiment's merit award is the best: SAS troops

Three crack troops say it's the best being part of the regiment which has won a topAustralian military honour.

They're among the 130 troops from the Special Air Service Regiment officially welcomedback from the war on terrorism by Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD in Perth today.

At the ceremony at Campbell Barracks, the entire regiment received the prestigiousMeritorious Unit Citation for sustained outstanding service.

Mr HOWARD praised the efforts and sacrifices of the regiment, which lost one member,ANDREW RUSSELL, in Afghanistan.

Captain JEFF, Corporal MATT and Sergeant JOHN say their experience in Afghanistan wasvery positive.

And Corporal MATT says local Afghanis had made them feel just how valuable their presence was.
