FED: Contractors and casuals now fill 17 per cent of jobs
MELBOURNE, Dec 15 AAP - Contractors and casual workers now make up 17 per cent of the
Australian workforce - an increase of 5.4 per cent over the past five years, a human resources
firm said today.
A recent survey by Drake Personnel had shown that casual and temporary work had grown most
strongly, increasing from 9 per cent to 13 per cent of the total labour market in the past
five years, Drake executive director, Peter Renfrew, said.
"The contract workforce is also gaining ground. Today it accounts for 4 per cent of all
workers," Mr Renfrew said in a statement.
He said that the boom in "flexible staffing" had accelerated in recent years and was
growing at 20 per cent annually.
