Huge number of people throng divisional digital innovation fair in Rangpur.

Dhaka, Jan. 19 -- Hundreds of people, mostly the youths and students, have been thronging with huge enthusiasm the best ever two-day Divisional Digital Innovation Fair -2011 being held in the city from Monday.

They have been showing deep interests in internet browsing and getting information and e-services of the government using laptops, various digital devices and the latest information and communication technologies (ICT) in the fair.

Talking to BSS, the young visitors expressed their huge satisfactions over the digital services like e-purjee, e- governance, e- education, e- agriculture, e-health and other e- services being provided to the grassroots people at all 34 stalls set up in the fair.

National Project Director of Access to Information (A2I) Programme Nazrul Islam Khan formally inaugurated the fair in a digital fashion by clicking button of a laptop in presence of thousands of people including young generations and students.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest, NI Khan said the government in line with the directions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to build a digital Bangladesh.

He said digitalization has been progressing from the bottom to the top layers to achieve the esteemed successes of building a corruption- free digital Bangladesh where the people would get all information and services easily at their doorsteps.

Setting up of 4,501, digitalized Union Information Service Centres (UISCs) has been completed and digital automation of all district and upazila offices, directorates and ministries would continue in phases in future, he said.

Access to Information (A2I) Programme being run from the Prime Minister's Office has been conducting the digitalization process to provide the people with all information and services easily and quickly at their doorsteps at the lowest cost, he said.

He said rooting out of corruption is not easy and full automation of the service providing systems would definitely eliminate the scopes for corruption and ensure accountability at all levels in a future digital Bangladesh.

On the sidelines of the ceremonial programmes in the fair, NI Khan told BSS that the Rangpur Digital Innovation Fair is the best one arranged so far in the country and it exposes various newer digital innovations and service providing techniques.

He also introduced deputy commissioner of Panchagarh Banamali Bhowmick to the huge crowds at the launching ceremony for his extraordinary performances achieved in his district in the process of building a digital Bangladesh.

The fair has been arranged to sensitize and bridge the people with the ICT, rights to information and easily reaching government services to them in the process of realizing the 'Vision 2021' as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, NI Khan said.

Later, he attended a seminar 'Strategic Priorities of Digital Bangladesh' and narrated the strategic plans, policies and priorities to implement the digitalization programmes utilizing the ICT at the lowest cost to provide maximum services to the people.

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Jashim Uddin Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Prof Dr Abdul Jalil Miah, People's Perspective Expert of A2I Programme Naimuzzaman Mukta and deputy commissioners were present.
